Parking arrival checklist for UK drivers

How to plan an unfamiliar parking arrival

Use this checklist alongside a city comparison or individual Q-Park driver guide. The purpose is to reduce avoidable arrival problems, not to replace live provider directions or booking terms.

Start with the vehicle entrance

A car park name is not always the most useful destination for a sat-nav. Use the approach street shown on the individual facility page, then compare it with the operator’s latest vehicle-entry instructions. This is especially important where a named development or shopping centre has separate pedestrian and vehicle access points.

Check the route on a map before setting off, and expect local one-way systems, loading restrictions, temporary closures or construction to alter the final approach. Never follow a map in preference to legal road signs.

Make sure the entire vehicle will fit

Compare your vehicle’s total height with the published car-park clearance. Roof boxes, bicycle racks, roof rails and other additions may change the clearance required. A published figure is a planning reference, not a promise that every ramp, bay or access point can accommodate your vehicle.

As an example, Q-Park Brindleyplace in Birmingham lists a height restriction of 2.05 m, whereas Q-Park Marble Arch in London lists 2.08 m. These figures describe different facilities in different cities and do not mean either is suitable for a vehicle without checking the current entrance signs.

Check arrival and exit hours separately

A site shown as open all day may still have different booking, entry, vehicle exit or staffed-service arrangements. A facility with limited operating hours requires even closer attention if an event or appointment could overrun.

Use the operator’s current facility notice and the confirmation supplied for your parking product. Never assume that a listed number of parking spaces guarantees a place at the time of arrival.

Treat EV charging and accessible bays as separate checks

A car-park listing may include a number of EV charging points or accessible parking spaces. Those totals do not establish real-time availability, connector compatibility, eligibility requirements or charging prices. Check the latest provider details if you depend on these services.

Consider whether the full walking or transfer route works for everyone in your party. The city comparison pages can help you identify candidates, but they do not replace provider accessibility information.

Recognise special hospital and airport rules

Hospital facilities can operate with visitor tariffs, patient arrangements, staff permits and access rules that differ from public pre-book products. Some listed hospital sites do not show the standard Q-Park advance booking option. Read the specific parking policy before travelling.

Airport park-and-ride operations have additional considerations: shuttle transfer points, flight times, terminal arrangements and sometimes vehicle eligibility conditions. Q-Park Gatwick is in Crawley and is not a central London car park; use the airport booking flow and transfer directions.

Use live booking information for the actual cost

JustParking.com is a planning and comparison directory. Q-Park determines whether advance booking is available, the parking products on sale and the price for your dates. Do not estimate a final parking charge from a static guide or assume an online product is available at every listed facility.

Where a guide offers a booking link, it leads through a local first-party booking page to the operator. Confirm the car-park name and dates on Q-Park before paying and keep the operator’s confirmation.

Run a final travel-day check

Before leaving, re-check the entrance street, arrival window, planned route, height limit and any temporary access changes. If travelling to a hospital or airport, include any permit, passenger or transfer instructions in that final check.

The published facility inventory was reviewed against Q-Park UK listings on 12 October 2026. Individual space counts and amenity figures may have changed since their initial publication; Q-Park’s current information is the definitive source.
